How on earth did you get into this?

I get this question a lot, with good reason. Professional organizing is still a "new" concept for many, but the industry is growing and with all those TV shows now, it won't be long before everyone has their own organizer on call! (OK, that might be a ways off, but what a good idea, huh?!)

Like many other organizers out there, I've been doing this for years, from childhood really. I found pulling everything out of the hall closet and putting it all back in neatly labeled containers and matching hangers to be fun. (Yes, fun!) Of course I went and did other things for many years...After graduating from the University of Virginia with a degree in "Political and Social Thought" (which screams "law school!"), I was a paralegal, which requires a lot of organizational skills (I'll spare you the lawyer jokes!), and then I spent about a decade in the non-profit sector in New York City, working for small, grassroots organizations, and a couple more established groups as well. Every place I went I ended up revamping the office space (I executed two office moves and supervised the build-out of raw space (with mostly volunteer labor) as well) - from files to supply closets to inter-office communication. I just couldn't stand time wasted looking for things or having inefficient layouts and systems, so --without really thinking about it-- I organized.

In late 2004 I returned to the Hudson Valley after 12 years in Brooklyn. I am still active with my family's farm and apple orchard, Soons Orchards, which is open year-round but for June and July. I actually have my father to thank for my organizing skills. As a farmer and apple grower with scads of equipment, tools, and tasks to keep track of, his ability to keep everything in order and moving forward is an inspiration.

In 2008, I added to my staging knowledge and completed the Accredited Staging Professional (ASP) course offered by the creator of home staging, Barb Schwarz, and A happy combination my organizing and design abilities, home staging is completely second nature to me. I promise you will love the results, and buyers will too!
